The Hammond Chiefs opened pool play against the T3 Pelicans. Chiefs Pitcher, Mike Hanchar (Andrean) pitched an outstanding game against the Pelicans and tossed 6 innings of two hit ball. A dink hit to left field in the top of the seventh led to 2 Pelicans run and a loss for the Chiefs. Game #2 did not help the Chiefs confidence as the Chiefs fell to tournament host, JB Yeager Baseball. Defensive lapses hur the Chiefs for the first time and led to the 7-4 loss. Day #2 and game three was another outstanding pitching effort, and this time it led to a Chiefs win. Nick Nauracy (Crown Point) tossed a two hitter and and the Chiefs defeated the North Stars from Monticello Indiana by a score of 8-1. Game #4 featured the Chiefs vs. the Future Stars of Cincinnati. Tyler Ochi (Andrean) picked up the win for Chiefs. Chris Slivka paced the offense with a 2 run shot in the 2nd game to lead the Chiefs to a 9-2 win. After the game, the Chiefs headed out to Great American Ballpark, where they watched the Reds fall to Toronto 3-2. Drew Stubbs created one highlight for the reds with an in the park homerun. The Chiefs end pool play tomorrow against the Statesman from Springfield, Illinois.
