17U CHIEFS DEFEAT 18U LOMBARD LIGHTENING 1-0

Thursday, June 6, 2013 • POSTED BY:  Ryne Pishkur 17U

On a chilly evening in June with the wind blowing in, one might expect a pitcher's duel. That's exactly what everyone got Thursday night at Riverside Park. Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll) scored the only run of the game in the first inning and the 17U Indiana Chiefs rode the arms of Jonathan Azar (1-0, Munster) and Cullen Carey (1 save, Andrean) the rest of the way. Azar threw six innings of shutout ball and gave up his first hit of the game to the first batter in the top of the seventh. That was Azar's last pitch of the night as he gave the ball to Carey to close the game. "C.C." came in and struck out the first batter before inducing a game-ending double play. The games' lone extra base hit was a double by Chiefs' first baseman Josh Terzarial (Griffith). The 17U Chiefs move to 3-0 and will take on the Calumet City Renegades Friday night at 7.
