Dear Players and Parents

Hard to believe, but the start of the summer baseball season is almost here. Not to take away from your high school season, but summer baseball is just a few weeks away. Having said that, we hope your high school season is going well. We want to make sure that your focus continues to be on high school baseball at this point in time. Hopefully your school is competing for a conference championship. If not, then we hope your team does well in sectional play and advances far into the state tournament. Best of luck to all of you as the high school state tournament approaches.

Upcoming Events & Dates to Remember

Please mark down the following dates for upcoming Chief and Seminole events, as we near the start of our season in June. We need to stay in contact with you over the next few weeks and these dates will help you to plan the start of our season.

Player / Parent Meeting

Sunday, May 22 We will be having our annual pre-season player / parent meeting for all Chiefs and Seminoles players and parents, beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the field in Riverside Park. We expect all players to attend and at least one parent representing each player. Our topics of discussion will include the beginning of the season, schedules, out-of-town tournaments, issuing uniforms, team procedures, along with other topics. A copy of the agenda for this meeting has been included with this newsletter. Please take time to review it and plan to attend this important meeting. If it rains we will put an update on the web site the morning of the 22nd.

Program Player Pictures and Profiles As part of our meeting on Sunday, May 22, all players and coaches will have their picture taken for our team program / ad book. Players will be asked to fill out a player profile sheet for the program at our Sunday meeting. The picture will take place immediately after the player / parent meeting. We will have a team cap and jersey available for all players to wear for the picture.

First Practice & Open Tryouts for Non-Rostered Players

Our first official team practice will be Tuesday, May 31 at Riverside Park at 5:00 p.m. This will be for all players whose teams have been eliminated from the state high school tournament or who have been released by their high school coach. We will also practice on Wednesday, June 1 and Thursday, June 2 at 5:00 p.m. All practices will be at Riverside Park. Any non-rostered player wishing to tryout for either team will be invited to the May 31 and June 1 practices to tryout.

At this time we are primarily interested in adding pitchers. If you know of someone who wants to tryout, let us know and we will contact that player or you can let them know about the open tryout dates.

Rostered players, (this includes you) don't need to tryout. You are already on the team. Rostered players will just practice on those dates.

Opening Game Dates

The Chiefs first game is Friday, June 3rd, at home, beginning at 7:00 p.m. against the Lombard Lighting. On Saturday, June 4th the Chiefs play a double-header at home against the Lansing Redbirds starting at 1:00 p.m.

Opening weekend for the Chiefs continues on Sunday, June 5th with a 1:30 p.m. home game against the East Chicago Cardinals. All home games are played at Riverside Park.

The Seminoles first game will be played on Monday, June 6th, at home, beginning at 7:00 p.m. against the South Holland Cardinals. All home games are played at Riverside Park. It is normal that during the first weekend and first week of the season that Seminole players are brought up to play for the Chiefs. This is to fill roster spots for the Chief players who are still participating in the state high school tournament. Both teams will practice together during the first week of the season.

A full schedule of local games and our weekend tournaments will be distributed to all players and parents at our meeting on May 23. Both the Chiefs and Seminoles full season schedule, which includes all local games, will appear on our web site,, before our Sunday, May 22 meeting.

Team Procedures on Road Trips

Depending on each teams first game of an out of town tournament and travel distance, we usually leave the day before. Team players travel together to out of town tournaments and stay together in the same hotel. The cost of the players stay and one team meal per game day are provided by our program. Most hotels that we stay at provide breakfast at no cost to players. This is in addition to the one team meal that we provide on game days.

Parents are responsible for making their own arrangements at various hotels. We encourage parents to attend as many out of town tournaments with our teams as possible. A list of hotels that we will be staying at will be provided at our May 22nd meeting. We hope that you will make plans for some great road trips and can accompany us to as many out of town tournaments as possible!
