Dear Players, Parents, Fans:

Happy New Year to all of our players, parents, and members of the Chiefs and Seminoles baseball program. We look forward to the start of the New Year as we begin our 22nd season of providing baseball for players ages 15-18. We hope that you are all doing well and ask that you please take a few moments to read our latest newsletter. It is updated with the most current information in regard to our program for 2012.

Open Gym Begins Sunday January 22

We are inviting all of our 2012 rostered Chief and Seminole players to attend our first open gym Sunday on January 22, beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Bishop Noll. The first Sunday will be for Chief and Seminole players only. We will give you the opportunity to come in and throw, hit, and work on various baseball skills, under the supervision of our coaches. We will conduct the workout as a pre-season type of practice providing you the opportunity to work as a team and also on individual skills. We will also use this time to demonstrate the drills and have you practice the skills that we will be using to instruct players, who will be attending our kids camps over the next several Sundays. We will fill out a schedule for Sundays, that you may be available to help out at our kids camps, which begin January 29. As a note in regard to our kids camps, we understand that some of you may be required at school to perform community service hours. You can receive credit toward those hours by working at and assisting with our kids camps. We will provide you with a letter stating the number of hours that you worked and the community service that you provided by working at the camps. Again, the workout on Sunday, January 22, is from 11:00 a.m.-1:00 p.m. (door H) Take advantage of the opportunity to come in on the 22nd and start preparing yourself for the 2012 baseball season. Hope to see you!

$1,000 Tony Klaja Scholarship Award Presented at Banquet

Over 50 players, parents coaches, board members, and friends attended our annual December Holiday banquet on the 28th of this past month at Bridges Scoreboard in Griffith. The banquet, which is for players and parents of the past season, was well attended and we thank everyone who was there. At the banquet the annual Tony Klaja Memorial Scholarship Award was presented to a Chief player from this past summer team. The award goes to a graduating Chief player who has been a member of the Seminoles for at least one year and a member of the Chiefs for at least two years. The player must have demonstrated commitment to our program over the past 3 years and is committed to doing whatever it takes to put themselves into a position to attend college and possibly play at the next level. This years award was presented to Elliott Bajda, who graduated from Whiting High School. Congratulations to Elliott and a special thank you to the Klaja family, who have continued to present this award in the name of their son Tony since 1997. Tony played for the Seminoles and Chiefs in 1995-96 and tragically passed away before the start of the 1997 season. The award continues in his name. Also thanks to the Sammon family, who have also contributed financially toward this scholarship. Roger Sammon was our 2009 award winner.
