NEWSLETTER:  FEBRUARY 2012

Dear Players and Parents

Please take time to read our February newsletter. Information has been updated in regard to our baseball program for the 2012 season. Players please make sure that your parents get to see this newsletter. We hope that the newsletter will keep you updated on the most current events in our program.

2012 Hammond Chiefs Winter Baseball Camp A Success

On Sunday, February 19th the Hammond Chiefs baseball program conducted their 22nd Annual Winter Baseball Camp at Bishop Noll. The camp included almost 40 players ages 10-12 and 13-18. Chief and Seminole players and coaches also participated and assisted with the camp. The all day camp provided players with defensive instruction in the morning and hitting and base running in the afternoon. Lunch was provided for all players and each player participating in the camp received a camp T-shirt.

This was the first year that players ages 10-12, were included in the camp. All players participating in the camp did a great job of working on the drills and skills that were presented and were very good at keeping up a brisk pace, as they moved from one area to another. The goal of the camp was to present players with many different ways to improve their skills and instill a good work ethic toward the game. We feel that these goals were accomplished and hope that players left the camp with ideas and ways to better their game.

Thanks to the following Chief and Seminole players that attended and either participated or assisted with the camp. Kody Alayon, Jeremy Briggs, Alex DelRio, Tyler Fraley, Allan Korem, Danny Pobereyko, Chris Shudick, Chris Slivka, Tyler Sroczynski, Jonathan Vercimak, Jonathan Azar, Joey Bryant, Matt Dvorscak, Brandon Garcia, David Hladek, Frank Podkul, Tyler Quillin, Jaylen Yarbrough.

Thanks to our coaches and members who were at the camp and assisted in various ways. Coaches Iwema, Wirtz, Pishkur, Tucker, Nohos, Jennings, and Sutkowski. Thanks to our secretary Ken Schmitt and our treasurer Pat Bieszat who checked players in, helped prepare lunch, and passed out camp T-shirts.

A special thanks to Bishop Noll Athletic Director Ed Hrea and Bishop Noll Head Baseball Coach Paul Wirtz for the use of their facility. We are extremely grateful to them for allowing us to use the facility at Bishop Noll not only this year, but also in years past.

The camp was definitely a success and we will build off this year’s camp, as we prepare for our 2013 Hammond Chiefs 23rd Annual Winter Baseball Camp. Thanks again to everyone who participated and assisted.
