Chiefs Win Indy Pastime Pool

In game one, the Chiefs used and offensive explosion to win 9-6 over the Ohio Panthers. Cody Dykema (Lake Central) had a double, and a triple, while Dominic Albanese (Brother Rice) had two more hits for the Chiefs. Chris Slivka (Munster) belted a long homerun. Zack Goldasich (Andrean) and Nick Tobye (Andrean) both chipped in with at least one hit. Tony Curatolo (Hobart) picked up his second win of the season and Albanese notched his first save. The pitching was helped out by stellar defense with Albanese making two diving plays to save runs for the Chiefs pitchers. In Game #2, the Chiefs captured their pool with a 5 – 2 victory over the Indiana Bulls. Mike Poulus (Munster) threw a gem for the Chiefs. Poulus allowed one earned run in 5 innings while striking out three. Poulus was relieved by Danny Poberyko (Bishop Noll) and completed the game for his first save of the summer. The Chiefs used timely hitting and small ball to push 5 runs across the plate. Kody Alayon (Bishop Noll), Mike Brosseau (Andrean), Cody Dykema (Lake Central), and Zack Goldasich (Andrean) each scored a run to help lead the Chiefs to the win. Chris Slivka (Munster), Tony Curatolo (Hobart), and Tyler Sroczynski (Illiana Christian) each chipped in with a hit. The victory over the Bulls gave the Chiefs a 4-0 record in pool play action and lead to a #6 seed in the 42 team tournament. In the first round of the final 12, the Chiefs fell to the Indiana Bulls 18’s 5-0. The Bulls feature three players drafted in the Major League Baseball draft. The Chiefs record is now 7-2 overall and 4-1 in the Indy Pastime Tournament. The Chiefs return to action on Monday at Riverside Park.
