Chiefs win first two games in CABA World Series

Game #1 for the Chiefs featured the Chiefs vs. the NY Gothams. Hammond came from behind to capture a 4-3 win over the Gothams. The big hit for the Chiefs came off the bat of Kody Alayon (Bishop Noll) with a 3 RBI double into deep right center field. Alayon’s 3 RBI double set up the the fifth inning for the Chiefs. Elliot Bajda (Whiting) reached base on a hit by pitch. Bajda was then sacrificed to second by Zach Goldasich (Andrean). After a walk and a wild pitch, Bajda stole home on a double steal to give Hammond the 4-3 lead. Mike Hanchar (Andrean) picked up his fifth win of the season with a strong effort on the bump. Hanchar struck out 7 hitters and allowed five hits for the Chiefs.

In Game #2, the Chiefs faced the undefeated Myrtle Beach Stars and delivered a blow early and often to give Hammond a 9-2 win. The Chiefs used four hits in the first inning to open up with a 3-0 lead after one inning. The second inning was much of the same as Hammond scored 5 more runs on five more hits. Cody Haver (Andrean) was 2 for 5 with 2 runs, and an RBI. Zach Goldasich (Andrean) was 2 for 3 with 2 runs and an RBI. Nick Nauracy (Crown Point) returned the mound for the Chiefs and started game #2 after a rain delay and cancellation of the previous game from the day before. Nauracy went a strong 3 2/3 innings allowing 1 earned run on 4 hits. Tyler Ochi (Andrean) came in for relief and picked up the save by going 3 1/3 innings for the Chiefs. Ochi struck out three allowed 2 hits in his relief appearance.

The Chiefs return to pool player tomorrow against the Philadelphia Reds at College of Charleston at 12:30 pm (CT)
