Fall Showcase Prospects Scrimmage

The Hammond Chiefs return for their second go around with the Fall Showcase Team. Thursday, August 25th at 7:00 pm will be final scrimmage for anyone interested in trying out for the fall showcase team. The first attempt for our showcase team was a major success. The schedule consists of a local college circuit that includes stops in three states. We have college showcases at Valparaiso University, Augustana College, Carthage College, Wabash College, and a few other local events. The highlight of the schedule is the Perfect Game “World Wood Bat World Championships Underclassmen” in Fort Myers, Florida. This event attracts around 190 teams and 400 scouts to the three day event. Season one for the Chiefs was a huge success in part because of the Florida trip. The Chiefs were scheduled in a pool with the defending champion “Orlando Scorpions” and Baseball U (#13 in the nation at the time). After three exciting well played games, the Chiefs captured their pool by defeating the Scorpions 10-2. With the pool victory the Chiefs moved to “Championship Day” against the East Cobb Astros. Hammond fell in this game by a score of 4-3. Many of the players received a lot of the attention after the tournament because of their skills and play. It will be hard to accomplish, but we hoping for another great fall of baseball with the fall exposure team.
