Mike Brosseau recognized the work ethic and practice routine of Oakland University almost right away.

“Their method is somewhat the same of what we do at Andrean,” the 59ers shortstop said. “Their expectations and hard work and how they practice, it’s exactly the way we runs ours.

“The university is awesome, the area around it is awesome, the coaches are even better.”

When Oakland offered Brosseau a scholarship, it didn’t take long for him to accept. The Andrean senior has committed to sign a letter of intent to the Grizzlies when the signing period begins Nov. 9. 

“Mike’s a throwback baseball fanatic, the kind you like to see,” Andrean pitcher Dave Pishkur said. “He’s a good all-around athlete. In this time and era we live in, he was a two-sport athlete and decided to give up basketball and other sports to concentrate on baseball.”

By his sophomore season, Brosseau took over shortstop from graduated Adam Norton, who went to Notre Dame. In the 2010 state championship season, Brosseau hit .330 with 19 RBIs and 19 runs.

After hitting over .400 with the Hammond Chiefs during the summer, Brosseau said he was also being courted by Western Michigan, Michigan State, Illinois State and North Park in Chicago. When the contact period started, Oakland was the first to call at 9:30 a.m.

“Once Oakland offered, I knew that’s where I wanted to go,” Brosseau said.
