Chiefs finish WWBA pool play at 2-1

The Hammond Chiefs finished WWBA Underclassmen Pool Play at 2-1.  The Chiefs defeated the West Cobb Cardinals 5-2 to finish second in their pool.  Michael Poulus (Munster) tossed five innings in the victory.  The 6′ 6″ right hander did not give up an earned run in the victory.  Jonathan Vercimak (Lake Central) finished on the hill for the Chiefs.  Tyler Fraley (Highland) and Mike Mueller (Munster) had two big hits for Chiefs to lift them to victory.  Jesse Smith (Griffith) finished pool play with a perfect .1000 batting average for the WWBA.  Smith also walked several times to lead the Chiefs offense.

After a lot of rain and travel to different fields, the Chiefs closed out the WWBA with a tie in a consolation game against the Teaneck Titans.  Matt Dvorscak (Whiting) was set to pick up the victory with 3 innings of work on the mound.  The Sophmore shut down the Titans, but a late rally led to the tie score.

The Chiefs return from another successful WWBA World Championships with a 2-1-1 record.
