Former Chief, John Livingston Leads South Sub to Regional Title

SOUTH HOLLAND, IL – The South Suburban College Baseball Team (35-22) won theNJCAA Division I Region IV-A Tournament after defeating Kishwaukee College 11-10Monday afternoon at Bulldog Field. The Bulldogs will now host the Midwest DistrictTournament this weekend (Saturday and Sunday) with the winner advancing to theNational Tournament in Colorado.

The Bulldogs earned the District Tournament berth with a walk-off two-out, two-strikesingle by Craig Austgen (SS, Lowell, IN) scoring the tying and go-ahead runs. It was aback and forth battle all afternoon with Kishwaukee setting up the wild finish by scoringfour runs in the top half of the 9th to take a 10-9 lead. Winning pitcher Joe Greenfield(RHP, Orland Park, IL) came in relief and gave up the tying and go ahead runs beforegetting the final out in the 9th. Greenfield was also the winning pitcher on Sunday afterthrowing a 10-0, five inning shutout over Kishwaukee.

John Livingston (1B, Highland, IN) was named the Tournament MVP after hitting .833(10-12) in three games this weekend. Coach Steve Ruzich was presented with his 9thCoach of the Year Award.

The District Tournament is a three team, double-elimination tournament and will openwith Iowa Western (#1 in the nation) vs. John Logan Saturday at 10:00 a.m. TheBulldogs will play the loser at 1:00 p.m. and the winner at 4:00 p.m. Saturday. TheDistrict Championship Game will be held on Sunday.
