Seminoles Advance to Championship Round at Notre Dame

Game 1
The Hammond Seminoles (10-12) lost to the South Oakland A’s 3-2 on a walk-off single in the 7th inning. Matt Dvorscak (Whiting, 1-3) was the tough luck loser going 6 and 1/3 giving up 3 earned runs with 4 strikeouts on 5 hits in the 100 degree heat. At the dish, the Noles were paced by David Hladek (Munster) who was 2-3. Hladek was the only Nole with multiple hits.
Game 2
Hammond (11-12) defeated the Ontario Prospects 8-0. Brandon Roeske (Chesterton, 4-1) was ultra-efficient going 5 innings on just 57 pitches. He surrendered no walks or hit batters and didn’t get to a 3-ball count on any hitters. He finished with 4 strikeouts and 2 hits allowed. On offense, Corey Rusboldt (Chesterton) was 2-3 with 2 runs scored, David Hladek (Munster) had a triple and 3 RBI, Jaylen Yarbrough (Bishop Noll) was 1-1 with 2 runs, Alex Vode (Andrean) was 1-1 with 2 walks and Brandon Garcia (Griffith) also walked twice.
Game 3
The Seminoles (12-12) received another great start on the mound from Jonathan Azar (Munster) as Hammond beat the Illinois Magic 8-0. Azar (2-2) allowed just 1 hit in 5 innings while striking out 5. Offensive contributors for Hammond included Corey Rusboldt (Chesterton, 2 RBI), Matt Dvorscak (Whiting, 2 walks), Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll, 2 walks) and Kyle Buikema (Griffith, RBI single).
Championship Bracket
Hammond (12-13) was eliminated when they lost to the Anchor Bay Angels 3-2 in 9 innings. Jimmy Skiff (Andrean, 2-2) only allowed 2 runs (both earned) in 8 innings which included 7 strikeouts. Two Bishop Noll players, Jaylen Yarbrough and Angel Figueroa, recorded multi-hit games for the Noles. Yarbrough was 3-4 with a double and Figueroa pitched in 2 singles.
