Indiana Chiefs 14U falls to NWI Shockers Blue 8-6 in spite of Alex Dobrzeniecki’s performance
Alex Dobrzeniecki did all he could to give Indiana Chiefs 14U a boost, but it wasn’t enough to get past NWI Shockers Blue, as Indiana Chiefs 14U lost 8-6 in seven innings at Riverside Park on Saturday.
Dobrzeniecki racked up two RBIs on two hits for Indiana Chiefs 14U. He singled in the fourth inning and doubled in the fifth inning.
NWI Shockers Blue couldn’t get anything going as long as Pat Manyek was pitching. Pat Manyek held NWI Shockers Blue hitless over two innings, allowed no earned runs, walked two and struck out four.
Erik Lakomek recorded the win for NWI Shockers Blue. He allowed two runs over three innings. Lakomek struck out two, walked two and gave up three hits.
Ryan Missal, Carter Moldenhauer and Trevor O’Donnell helped lead NWI Shockers Blue. They combined for six hits and five RBIs.
In the top of the first, NWI Shockers Blue grabbed the early lead, 1-0. The NWI Shockers Blue attack began with a single from Missal. A stolen base then moved Missal from first to second. Moldenhauer singled, bringing home Missal.
Indiana Chiefs 14U quickly matched NWI Shockers Blue’s strong inning with a one-run inning of its own in the first. Indiana Chiefs 14U scored on a groundout by Dobrzeniecki.
Indiana Chiefs 14U scored one run in the second inning, and then followed it up with one more in the fifth. In the second, Indiana Chiefs 14U scored on a fielder’s choice, scoring Jason Lamont.
NWI Shockers Blue stayed on top until the final out after taking the lead in the third, scoring four runs on two three-run home runs.
NWI Shockers Blue added two more runs in the top of the fourth. A sacrifice fly scored Noah Wells to start the scoring in the inning.
After pushing across three runs in the bottom of the fourth, Indiana Chiefs 14U faced just a 7-5 deficit. An RBI single by Troy Mead, an error, and a groundout by Mike Madura gave Indiana Chiefs 14U life. Finally, Wells got Will Kulcher to strike out to end the threat.
