Chiefs capture home opener against Lombard
The Hammond Chiefs opened the 2011 season with a 4-2 victory over Lombard at Lady Riverside. Tony Curtolo (Hobart) picked the opening game victory by going 5 strong innings and giving up only one run. Curtolo gave way to Aveeno Nasiloski (Hammond Gavit) who came in and pitched two strong innings for the save. The Chiefs offense was paced by lead off hitter Dominic Albanese (Brother Rice) who reached base twice and belted a deep double to left center field. Chris Slivka (Munster) also chipped in a double to left center to help the Chiefs pad their 2-1 lead over Lombard. Blaize Borovich (Andrean) then hit a two out, two strike pitch over 1st base to pick up a big insurance run. The Chiefs get back to action tomorrow as they host the Lansing Redbirds in a double header at Lady Riverside
