Chiefs fall to Lansing Redbirds
The Hammond Chiefs fell to the Lansing Redbirds by a score of 7-2. The Chiefs pitching staff combined to walk 11 hitters in the seven inning contest. “It’s hard to win any game where your pitching staff struggles getting the ball over the plate.” “That comes with the lack of experience and layoff that some of the chiefs roster has had.” Even with the number of Redbirds that received a free pass, the chiefs only allowed 7 runs. Hammond’s offense came from the bat of DJ Griffin (Hammond Morton) who blasted a 2 run shot in the bottom of the seventh inning. The Second Game of the Double Header was cancelled because of the major storms that rolled through Northwest Indiana. The Chiefs return to action tomorrow against EC Central at Riverside Park. Game time is 1:30 pm.
