Chiefs capture first round BaseBrawl game
Hammond Chiefs move to 1-0 in pool play at the Region BaseBrawl Classic with a 11-1 five inning victory over the Duneland Flyers. The Chiefs, Mike Hanchar (Andrean) tossed a two hitter with 12 strikeouts in five innings on the mound. Hanchar moves to 3-1 on the season. Offensively the Chiefs were lead by Tony Curatola (Hobart) by going 2 for 2 and scoring 2 runs for the Chiefs. Nick Tobye (Andrean) was also 2-2 and picked up two rbi’s for the Chiefs. The Chiefs return to pool play action with games against the Hammond Mohawks at 4:00 pm and against the Highland Royals at 7:00 pm. The Region BaseBrawl Classic involves two pools of four teams. The American League pool is played at Riverside Park in Hammond, and the National League pool is played at Oil City Stadium in Whiting. When pool play is complete, a single elimination will determine the BaseBrawl Champion. The Championship Tournament will take place at Whiting’s Oil City Stadium. The Championship rounds begin on Sunday, July 10th at 1:00 pm with the Championship game at 7:00 PM.
