Seminoles Defeat Apex Baseball at Riverside Park
In a battle between two of the premiere 16U teams in the state, it was the Seminoles (4-0) that emerged victorious at beautiful Riverside Park. The 18-10 final was indicative of the big innings for both the Seminoles (4 run 2nd inning, 4 run 3rd, 8 run 5th) and Apex (3 in the 5th inning, 6 in the 6th). The Noles were led offensively by Brandon Barnes (Andrean, 3 hits with 3 runs scored and 4 RBI), Angel Figueroa (Bishop Noll, 2 hits), Brandon Roeske (Chesterton, 2 runs and 2 RBI), Alex Vode (Andrean, 3 hits and 2 runs), and Rob Long (Andrean, 2 hits and 2 RBI). Earning the win in his first start for Hammond was Roeske (1-0, 3 K’s in 2 innings). Jonathan Azar (Munster) also contributed 3 strong innings of relief. Apex was led by Donovan Chandler (Andrean, 2 runs and 3 stolen bases), Matt DeSomer (Andrean, 2 hits with 2 RBI and 2 stolen bases) and Matt Kramer (Lincoln-Way, 2 hits and 3 RBI).
