Seminoles Win Pool in Cincinnati Flames Tournament

GAME #5

In a match up between the #16 seed (Hammond Seminoles, 7-6) and the #1 seed (Kentucky Baseball Club; outscored their opponents 30-0 in pool play), it was the #1 seed that emerged with a 3-0 victory. Brandon Barnes got the start for Hammond and battled all 6 innings allowing 3 runs (2 earned) on just 2 hits with 4 strikeouts. Kentucky’s ace held the Noles to a single base runner in his 4 innings (Brandon Garcia, Griffith, HBP). Frank Podkul (Andrean) broke up the no-hitter in the 6th inning with a triple and Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll) recorded a single in the 7th for their only other hit. The Kentucky Baseball Club went on to win the tournament.

GAME #4

In their fourth and final game of pool play, the Hammond Seminoles (7-5) defeated the Minnesota Mizuno All-Stars 11-0 to improve to 3-1 in the tournament and earn a wild card bid to the championship round. Jonathan Azar (Munster) threw all 5 innings scattering 5 singles and striking out 5. Leaders at the dish for the Seminoles included Frank Podkul (Andrean, 3-3 with 2 doubles and 4 RBI), Jimmy Skiff (Andrean, 2-3 with 2 RBI and a double), Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll, 3 runs scored), Kyle Buikema (Griffith, 2 runs scored), and Matt Dvorscak (Whiting, 2 runs scored). Dvorscak also made two diving catches in right field including one with the bases loaded and 2 outs in the first inning.

GAME #3

Hammond (6-5) gave up 7 runs (1 earned) and scored only 2 against the Wisconsin Hitters (3-0 in pool play) to fall to 2-1 in pool play. Tyler Quillen (Chesterton) threw well in relief. The only two Seminoles hits came off the bats of David Hladek (Munster, home run) and Jimmy Skiff (Andrean, double).

GAME #2

The Seminoles (6-4) defeated JB Yaeger (Cincinatti, Ohio) 8-1 to move to 2-0 in pool play in the Cincinatti Flames wood bat tournament.  Jimmy Skiff (Andrean) dominated the Yaeger hitters to the tune of 1 run on 4 hits with 11 strikeouts and just 1 walk in 6 innings.  Offensive leaders included David Hladek (Munster, 2 hits, 2 runs and a double), Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll, 2 doubles), and Brandon Barnes (Andrean, 2 hits including a double).

The Hammond Seminoles (5-4) won their first game of pool play in the Cincinnati Flames tournament defeating Steve’s Sports Baseball (Cleveland, Ohio) 8-5. Brandon Roeske (3-0, Chesterton) went 7 strong innings allowing 5 runs (2 earned) on 5 hits with 5 strikeouts to just 1 walk. Offensively for the Noles, Matt Dvorscak (Whiting) had 2 doubles and 4 RBI, Jimmy Skiff (Andrean) had a 3-RBI double, and Brandon Barnes (Andrean) was 2-3 with a run and an RBI.
