Sometimes the gravy train comes early. Sometimes it takes awhile for a dream to come true.

For Bishop Noll senior baseball player Danny Pobereyko, everything has come together in perfect time.

Pobereyko, after a summer of solid outings in college showcase events, verbally committed to Butler on Monday.

After competing at the Crossroads Showcase at the U.S. Steel Yard in Gary in June, Pobereyko’s phone started ringing off the hook.

The other schools recruiting the 6-foot-4 pitcher were Indiana State, Ohio, Murray State, Harvard, West Point and St. Joseph’s College.

But a visit to the north side of Indianapolis last Friday and Saturday ended the search for the student with a 4.35 GPA.

“I really liked the campus,” he said. “I connected with it. I liked the guys on the team. I have a good connection with the coaches.

“I felt like I could reach my potential there.”

In 2011 Pobereyko was a reserve on Noll’s Class 2A state runner-up basketball team. He has given up hoops now. He currently runs on the Warriors’ cross country team.

Danny’s brother, Matt, is pitching at Kentucky Wesleyan now. His father, Paul, was a baseball and basketball player at Noll in the 1970s.

Pobereyko wanted to thank Noll head coach Paul Wirtz and Warriors’ pitching coach, Jim Nohos, for helping him reach his goal. And he also gave a shout out to Andrean coach Dave Pishkur who helped him during some of the summer showcases.

Pobereyko plans on majoring in art when he gets to Butler.

“This is a big relief,” he said. “Now, I can just focus on my final year of high school.”
