Chiefs Finish Pool Play With Come From Behind Win
The Indiana Chiefs traveled to Fort Myers, Florida for the WWBA Underclass World Championships. The Chiefs finished Pool Play with a 2-1 record for a second place finish.
Game #1 – Terry Park:
The Chiefs opened pool play at the former Twins Terry Park against Florida Travel Ball. With as many as 125 division one scouts in attendance the chiefs came out tight in the 7-0 loss. FTB trotted out 3 stright right handers that touched 91 mph on the gun. Brandon Tepper (Munster) had the lone hit for the chiefs at Terry Park.
Game #2 – Florida Gulf Coast University
The second day of the WWBA was a much better result. The Chiefs put together a 3-1 victory over Team Elite White. With 25 scouts in attendance, Noah Burkholder (Crown Point) hit 88 mph on the gun and shut down the Team Elite offense. Leading the Chiefs offense was Daniel Gomez (Andrean) and Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll) with two hits each. Frank Podkul (Andrean), CJ Alexander (Crown Point), Matt Dvorscak (Whiting), Andrew Atchison (Crown Point), and Luke Bukowski (Boulder, CO) each chipped in with a hit. Podkul’s hit was a double and scored the game winner on an RBI single by Crisler.
Game #3 – JetBlue Stadium (Boston’s Fenway Park Replica)
Game #3 was the most exciting game of pool play as the Chiefs scored 3 runs in the bottom of the 6th and on an RBI single by Jonathan Azar (Munster) in the bottom of the 7th gave the Chiefs a 4-3 come from behind win against Mountain West. Jimmy Skiff (Andrean) and Daniel Gomez (Andrean) held Mountain West to 3 runs in 7 innings of work. Offensively, it was the bottom of the Chiefs order that led to the win. Brandon Tepper (Munster), and Matt Dvorscak (Whiting) had one hit each, while Dvorscak also scored a run. Jonathan Azar (Munster) and Larry Crisler (Bishop Noll) had two hits each. Crisler hit a ball of the top off the Green Monster to drive in a run, and Azar finished it with the walk off single.
