Chiefs advance with two wins in BaseBrawl Classic
The Chiefs opened the second day of BaseBrawl Pool Play with a 20-4 victory over the Hammand Mohawks and finished the night with a 2-1 win over the Highland Royals. In game one, the Chiefs batted around in the first inning and put any doubt to rest by taking a 5 run lead after the first inning. In the second, inning, Hammond scored nine runs to push the lead to 14 runs. Leading the Chiefs offensively started with D’Jari Griffin (Morton) who went 2-2 with a triple, two runs, and an RBI. J.R. Frederick (Chesterton) was 1-2 with 3 RBI’s. Brandon Valentine (Morton) belted a long homerun, scored 2 runs, and drove in 3 runs. Mike Brosseau (Andrean) was 2-2 with a double and 3 runs. Mike Sammon picked up the win for the Chiefs.
In Game #2, the Chiefs scored a run in the top of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Chris Slivka (Munster) scoring Cody Haver (Andrean) with the winning run. Slivka drove in both runs for the Chiefs with an RBI single and the sacrifice fly in the seventh. Haver had a great night by going 2 for 3 and scoring the winning run. Even better was Haver’s effort on the mound. The Andrean product tossed a complete game four hitter to lead the Chiefs to the close win. Haver had 4 strikeouts and 2 walks in his gutsy effort. Taking the hard luck loss for Highland was Matt Knesek. Knesek matched Haver with a four hitter and added 7 strikeouts of his own. The Chiefs advance to the second semi-final game at Oil City Stadium in Whiting Indiana. The Chiefs will play the South East Suburban All-Stars at 4:00 pm. The winner will then advance to the Championship game at 7:00 pm.
