Chiefs Split at Triton College Classic

Hammond Chiefs opened pool play at the Triton College Classic with a split. The Chiefs defeated the Norwood Blues 5-4 in game one of the classic. In game two, the Chiefs fell to the Athletic Barn 5-0. Game #1 was all about Zach Goldasich (Andrean) and Elliot Bajda (Whiting). Goldasich and Bajda came up with back to back two out, two RBI hits to lead the Chiefs to the 5-4 win. Goldasich added two more hits on the day to complete game one with a three for three effort with three RBI and one run. Bajda also had a productive day with a two for three effort with two RBI. Mike Hanchar (Andrean) and Mike Sammon (Andrean) combined to pick up the win for the Chiefs. Hanchar picked up his 4 win on the summer. The Iowa Western recruit fought through a tough strike zone to pick up the win. Sammon picked up his second save of the summer. In Game #2, the Chiefs fell behind early and couldn’t fight back to get the win. Tyler Ochi (Andrean) led the Chiefs offense with a two for three effort in the loss. Nick Nauracy (Crown Point) got the tough luck loss for the Chiefs. Nauracy only gave up three hits in his five inning performance. The Chiefs move to 26-14 on the summer and return to play against the Lombard Lightning at the Triton College Classic today at 11:30 am.
