Chiefs defeat Breakers in 8 Innings
The Hammond Chiefs scored a run in the bottom of the eighth inning to beat the Indiana Breakers 5-4. In the bottom of the eighth, after one out, Tony Curotola (Hobart) drove a single up the middle and advanced to second when the Breakers tried to throw Curotola out at first base from centerfield. Later in the inning, Curotola advanced to third on a past ball. The game winner came on a single up the middle by Nick Tobye (Andrean). Earlier in the game, Cody Dykema (Lake Central) set up a comeback with a big double that put runners on second and third. Zach Goldasich (Andrean) then drove in Mike Brosseau (Andrean) and Dykema scored on a ground ball. Mike Hanchar (Andrean) started for the Chiefs, going 3 innings and giving up one run. Hanchar was relieved by Tyler Ochi (Andrean), and Aveeno Nasiloski (Hammond Gavit). Nasiloski picked up the win on the mound by going three innings without a run.
